Day 3 – Real-time multiplayer

The twelve days of Craft City is a series of articles made to explain the major functionalities of the game twelve days before the official launch. These articles are open to all and will still be available after the game’s release date.

Craft City is a browser-based game thus taking advantage of that platform to create a real-time multiplayer environment. The large city where everyone manages their neighborhood is contained into one giant map. You can view it as a major city (ex. New-York) split into smaller districts that almost act like individual cities. Everyone works towards a common goal and can be spectated in real-time at any moment.

The game provides you with a world map viewer to easily navigate this massive piece of land. You even have access to an address book where you can keep the location of your friends and favourite neighborhoods around.

When you scroll through the neighborhoods around, you can see changes made by each player in real-time. If they build a road, you will see that road being built. If they put a building on one tile, you will also see that building being built on that tile without the need to refresh or reload the game.

The more the players on the map, the more dynamic the game will be. The market will fluctuate more frequently. Trade routes with the surrounding neighborhoods will be available and even crafting can grant bonuses to others around. All those subjects will be discussed soon in the next days but keep in mind that you’re never alone when you play Craft City!
